So I spend a lot of time on a few blogs/websites, mainly DailyKos and AskAManager (https://www.askamanager.org).
There are lots of diaries here about workers’ rights, the war on workers diary series at DKos is an important one, and there are a lot of really good segments of advice about work/resumes/cover letters/work norms/ etc in the AskAManager blog.
This Sunday morning, I am making soup and snuggling with my cat while preparing to write a cover letter for a job in marine conservation. I’ve finished my degree requirements for my Master in Marine Environmental Protection and am actively searching for a new career path now, not just a new job. This is my third major career shift, I am 49, and I spent 10 years in software project management, 9 years in non-profit communications/fundraising, and now I hope to spend at least the next 15 years working for marine protection. I found an amazing job at a really cool place that I am working on researching now, in order to write a high-quality compelling cover letter, and submit on Monday — working on the challenge of marine plastic pollution. I am also researching a list of journals to submit a paper to on flood risk concern and human well-being. These two topics really interest me.
My question to the DKos community today is… if there were literally no limits in your lives, what job would you love to do? If you had no worries at all, and time, and no boundaries (legal, national, etc) stopping you, where would you go, what would you do? Share your dreams — and if you are doing right now what you love (or have had a career in what you love) please share. If you have shifted careers — any tips?
This is a diary to share thoughts and dreams and be positive with each other. :)
