A quickie from the Church Of Ineffable Stupidity. today’s sAINT:
Peter Roskam, Illinois most neocon, ultra-conservative, super-christian, Trump supporter (95% voting record), huge NRA supporter, and anti-ACA zealot is ruining for re-election in Illinois- 6. In the past three weeks, he has toned down his scoffing at Global Climactic Change, has decided pre-existing conditions may actually impact 30% of his electorate, and realized that all them olde folks in his district actually do like Medicare and Social Security. A sea change from just earlier this year. Still, his Trumpian love still exists, and even a Pencive Mike has been spotted lurking in the district to garner support for him.
His opponent, Sean Casten, is not just nipping at his heels, he is either even or slightly ahead in various polls. Admittedly, the best poll was issued by Casten’s campaign, but still, the numbers seem fairly solid.
Today, I went to court in Wheaton (former KKK center ((Seriously, the KKK held a successful march here not too many years ago)), Neo-Nazi loving, red-neck, ultra-conservative, christianist) DuPage County, Illinois. I kept count of signs, a silly, but fun means of measuring the popularity of a candidate. Here is what I saw. In fact, I took a drive throughout the Wheaton area - 50% to scope out signs, 50% to avoid construction delays, and 50% out of curiosity. I gave my spying efforts a full 150% effort.
1. NOT ONE SIGN FOR BRUCE RAUNER. There were a couple for the Democratic opponent Pritzger.
2. Three YUGE signs for Roskam. But only three. Not a small one to be seen. At least a dozen, medium sized signs for Casten. My favorite was a particularly ritzy nape of the forest where there were two houses with Casten signs, followed by one house with Roskam. Heh. Then, followed by two more houses with Casten signs. They must love their neighbors there.
3. A smattering of other signs for other offices.
4. The courthouse voting area? People walking steadily in and out. Not one MAGA hat to be seen.
5. Road construction. Lots, and lots, and lots of road construction. This region of Illinois has four seasons: Summer (hot, humid, t-storms), Winter (cold, windy, snowy, bitter) Elections (like now) and Road Construction. Sad to say, the increase in road construction always seems to accompany an upcoming election, as though the “Ins” want to prove that they are doing things for their citizens.
6. The Chicago Tribune, which outside of the Washington Times, Wall Street Urinal, and certain editorial pages of WaPo, is one of the most conservative papers on this flat earth. Recently, the Trib editors have taken to complain about Trump and neocons currently running or holding office. They actually endorsed DEMOcrats for office this time, including Pritzger for governor. That is almost unheard of for the Trib. In fact, in 2016, in the Trump-Clinton presidential race, they endorsed . . . Wait for it . . . Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, rather than support either mainstream candidate.
My conclusion? This area is so bloody conservative, I would not be surprised if Roskam won. Still, the numbers are so close (with more than three polls showing a tie or a Casten lead) anything can happen. THAT is the breaking news here.
