Davidson condemns bomb threats against Obamas, Clintons; calls on Huizenga to tone down rhetoric
SPRING LAKE, Michigan —Emergency physician and Congressional candidate Rob Davidson today condemned bomb threats made against former Presidents Obama and Clinton, as well as CNN, when what appear to be explosive devices were found close to them. Davidson also called on his challenger, Congressman Bill Huizenga, to condemn the attacks and speak up against Trump’s rhetoric instead of using harsh words to attack his own constituents in West Michigan. In remarks captured on an audio recording made behind closed doors at an Ottawa County Republican Party event in Holland on Oct. 15, Huizenga belittled his own constituents who disagree with him and called them “third-graders,” “deadheads” and “shameful.”
“I join Americans from all backgrounds in condemning these acts of domestic terrorism, which illustrates why so many Americans are disgusted with Washington politicians who have lost their principles. Instead of working together to tackle the real problems that hardworking, middle-income Michiganders face every day, Congressman Bill Huizenga and his boss President Trump are reading from the same playbook of denigrating and demonizing people who don’t agree with them, and it’s polarizing our country. Washington’s culture of corruption and divisiveness, stoked by President Trump and enabled by people like Congressman Huizenga, are standing in the way of finding solutions to fix our broken healthcare system and lift wages for tens of millions of Americans who haven’t had a real raise since the 1970s while wealthy corporations and Wall Street billionaires get even richer. Third-graders know the difference between right and wrong, and so should a four-term member of Congress. President Trump and Congressman Huizenga must lead by example and recognize that their reckless, irresponsible words carry real-life and dangerous consequences.”
