In the wake of the deadliest attack on Jews in American history, when a gunman opened fired in a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and murdered 11 worshippers, vigils are being planned around the country to mourn those deaths.
New York City: Tonight, at sundown, we gather in Union Square—Jews and allies—to do Havdallah, to mourn those killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, and to commit to loving and defending each other against hatred.
Washington, D.C.: Tonight, we will gather in mourning, in outrage, in community, as Jews and allies, to hold each other in this moment. May the memories of those lost be a blessing.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Come together. Process. Mourn. Don’t be afraid.
Boston, Massachusetts: We will not be silent in the wake of this violent act of anti-semitism- we will reach for each other and for our allies as we join together to fight oppression in all of its forms.
Oakland, California: Tonight, we will gather in mourning, in outrage, in community, as Jews and allies, to hold each other in this moment. May the memories of those lost be a blessing.
