I’ve been struggling to find the right words after Saturday's events. But words are failing me. I’m angry. I’m sad. I’m frightened.
I’m angry that an anti-Semitic madman, armed with an AR-15, burst into a synagogue while a community gathered to celebrate the bris of an 8 day old baby boy and shouted “Jews must die”.
I’m saddened that at least 11 people died today while at worship. Many others will carry the visible and invisible scars of today with them for the rest of their lives.
I’m frightened that there is no universal outrage when the President of the United States blames the victims.
This has to stop. We need to call out racism, homophobia and antisemitism when we see it.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ― Edmund Burke
So do something. Hug your children. Check in on a friend or neighbor. And for the love of all that is good and decent, vote. Vote out those that turn a blind eye as others fan the flames of hate. Vote out those who value their elected position more than they value the lives of our children. Vote.
