So here are a few of my first ideas for legislation that the new Congress should pass. Of course, these ideas are in addition to vigorous oversight of the Trump Administration — which I hope involves calling Attorney Michael Cohen & Jared Kushner as witnesses at a public hearing very early in January 2019.
Legislative ideas:
1. Amend all civil rights laws to include within the definition of sex not just male/ female, but LGBTQ...probable best stated as “sexual orientation” and “sexual identity.”
2. Decriminalize marijuana at the federal level (basically remove it as a controlled substance) and allow each state to decide its own policy. With federal law calling marijuana a controlled substance, people and businesses in states with legal recreational marijuana still are in jeopardy.
Anyway...these two things jumped to my mind as a good way to start. At least pass them out of the House of Representatives and make the Republican Senate take the heat. Maybe even attach LGBTQ rights to a spending bill and see if Republicans want to shut down government over equality.
So what are your ideas for a substantive legislative agenda?
