Wisdom of the ages that never dies:
From Aschylus’ Agamemnon (2nd Stasimon; Translation by Alex Harrington)
Strophe
But hubris grown to age in wicked men
Will now or in the future then beget
The hubris newly born; It is ordained to bring unto the light
The daimon irresistible, invincible:
Unholy Rashness of enblackened chaos
Inhabiting the halls just like its sire
Antistrophe
But Justice shines her light in smoky shacks,
Her grace is given to the righteous man,
From ceilings wrought with gold
By hands that are polluted and so foul
She leaves and turns her eyes to men who are devout,
She does not give her praise to might of riches
And Justice steers all things unto their ends.
Or, as MLK more simply put it:
The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
Remember DJT said being president for life wasn’t such a bad idea? That seemed to be an off hand joke at the time, but was it from his perspective? Well, one can ascribe such a statement to a man whose hubris is off the charts, but perhaps something else is at play here: pure fear.
If I am correct, this may turn out to be the best schadenfreude moment of all, because Trump’s own hubris brought on the threat in the first place.
“So, ya wanted to be president, huh?”
Well, here’s a guy whose rise probably involved multiple crimes under the radar. Who was paying attention until he ran for president? Now all that stuff is in sharp focus, just waiting to descend upon him once he’s out of office. His own hubris brought this on. Being president is his only shield right now. No wonder he wants it for life.
The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
And Trump unwittingly shortens the arc.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
