2 days ago I saw a diary that has the headline “This Is What They Have Been Afraid Of All Along” with a photo of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and of course I assumed this was a piece on the fear that ‘ol white corporate democrats were feeling now that she is officially a Congresswoman.
But wow, the story- recommended 380 times- that said the impact her election was- not on fear within the democratic party- but on “Chump voters”. “….To Chump voters, this is terrifying. Racist xenophobes don’t live in constant fear of attack by a brown person; what they truly fear, what wakes them up in a cold sweat, is being outworked and beaten by POC.”
Man, talk about missing the forest for the trees.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is waaay more than a poster child for the racist fear of immigration.
In fact I’m pretty sure that being referred to as an Immigrant, or being used as an example of what a good immigrant can become, is something she would not appreciate in the least, as it ignores what she is truly about.
In a past comment of hers, it is as if she foreshadowed what she is really about- succinctly explaining what it means to transform the Country and the Party :
“The Republicans galvanize their base by inciting a lot of fear; they operate on a lot of myth-making. So we (democrats) have to have something compelling. We shouldn't be afraid to be bold. ~ Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Today, we learned a lot more about her boldness in a Huffingtonpost story by Daniel Marans. We learn that she and other Justice Democrats are not interested in incrementalism, but are interested in pushing the Party to do right by its base supporters through the primarying of representatives who are “demographically and ideologically out-of-touch with their districts,”.

She has so many great quotes, but that one, ending with “….We shouldn't be afraid to be bold.”
How much more bold do you want than what she brings to the Party today- a promise to lead a transformation, and to bring in new blood?
But maybe she and Justice Democrats are wrong about the state of the Party and the Country.
Or, is it as Nancy Pelosi said on Face the Nation Jan, 2017, “people don’t want change”. ?
