Friends,
In a few days, voters in the 1st Congressional District of Virginia will have the chance to cast their ballots and vote for their candidate of choice: either me or my opponent, Rep. Rob Wittman. In light of this, I would like to take a moment to remind voters why I am running for office and why I think they should vote for me.
My husband and I chose to live in King George, Va. because we knew it would be a great place to raise a family. As the parents of six wonderful daughters, we want what all parents want for their children – for our kids to thrive and be successful, and to have a better life than we did.
As a working mother, I know the everyday struggles of families around the district. From paying down medical bills and trying to save for retirement to having inadequate broadband or sitting in traffic for hours, I know these issues impact us regardless of party lines. They require a leader to bring common sense solutions to the table that will benefit all communities.
My opponent has acted as a rubber stamp for everything his party wanted without regard for the impact it would have on the people of the 1st District. Wittman voted numerous times to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act without a plan to replace it despite the fact that many people in the district have pre-existing conditions – people who the ACA protected from discrimination.
Given his history of following lockstep with whatever his party leadership says, we have no reason to expect that my opponent will stand up for the people of the 1st District in order to protect our Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security programs from cuts or do right by his constituents given the disregard he has shown by violating House ethics rules by using taxpayer funds to pay for his campaign mailings.
In contrast, however, voters of the 1st Congressional District should elect me to Congress because I will:
- work to create an economy for everyone and bring good jobs to the district through education, transportation and rural broadband to make the region competitive;
- fight for all Americans to have quality and affordable healthcare with dental and vision coverage through my Medicare Now++ plan; and
- provide veterans, enlisted military families, first responders and teachers with an income boost through my INVEST initiative.
I ask everyone in America’s First District to vote for the people of the 1st District on November 6 — not a political party.
Vote for me, Vangie Williams, because #WeDeserveBetter.
Vangie Williams
Candidate for Congress
