I came across this quote on a friend’s Democrat-pushing facebook page—it’s a “secret group” so I guess I better not tell you its name.
It was just a typed quote when I found it (I added the colors and typography, such as they are) so I doubt it’s made the rounds yet.
I’ve been feeling guilty about failing to get an absentee ballot (9,500 miles from my polling place) although I had some excellent excuses (medical and otherwise), so perhaps this could tip a few undecideds here and there.
I’d better add some filler to make this qualify as a diary:
The friend’s maiden name is Mary Adams and her own facebook personal page (using her married name) has a quote from Mark Twain: “Most of the species are descended from apes but redheads are descended from cats”—the last time our paths crossed, circa 1965, it suited her perfectly. Her older brother was a brilliant lunatic who made all his classmates listen to full-volume Mahler scherzos on a monster hi-fi in the cellar of their air force barracks home up in the dwarf pine woods, hoping we’d get addicted. (Maybe he’d get a commission on resulting LP sales from the Music Mart since Mahler symphonies required two-LPs in a box set and no one owned any yet, since Mahler had been out of fashion since before he was born. One committed addict’s buying spree might pay the shop’s rent for a week or more.) Their dad was off in Nam as a high-ranking senior pilot, later a three-star general. I’d already gone over to the enemy so had to bite my tongue often while visiting mad bro, catlike sis, and their nice mom.
Enough pointless digression. I think I met the word-count quota. Share the quote.
I think this version has more spring and bounce. Best of all is when you have both performances playing at once.
UPDATE: Just realized that in order to share the quote-box you have to slide it off the diary and repost it. Otherwise all the reminiscences will follow it around like trailing seaweed, weigh it down, and add extraneous confusion about Vietnam and Mahler, not to mention the Adams Family. (BTW, the other Addams family—of cartoon and TV fame—came from the other end of town, down on the beach.) Maybe I’d better repost this without clutter.
