On Friday, the Washington Post reported that Corey Stewart — three-time loser of statewide office in Virginia (most recently to Senator Tim Kaine) and divisive Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors — announced that he will no longer run for higher office for the foreseeable future. The announcement came during a Republican retreat in Norfolk, Virginia, where the state party came together to figure out what to do after major losses this year in both the House and Senate.
As noted in the WaPo article, Stewart has not ruled out running for re-election next year for Chairman of our county board. I’ve written previously about why he’s been bad on just about every issue you can think of, and how he recently led the board in completely dodging support for the Equal Rights Amendment a few weeks ago. When it comes to supporting people of color and women in our community, Stewart votes against our interests time and time again.
Under his leadership (or lack thereof), our schools are underfunded, we have the worst traffic congestion in the country, and we have folks in our community that work 1-3 jobs but still can’t make enough money to keep a roof over their heads. He’s spent more time campaigning for higher office than he has fixing the challenges facing our community, and it’s time we showed him the door for good.
He cannot win re-election next year, and we need your help to ensure he never holds public office ever again. Pick your favorite candidate running for the county board here next year, and support them!
