Just a short note to alert you about the suggestion made by panelist Mike Barnicle on Morning Joe (and Mika) today. The panel was interviewing Montel Williams regarding the Parkland school massacre. Montel had been visiting sites of previous school shootings for the past few years. His reaction was heartfelt and not surprisingly emotional. In the course of this segment. Morning Joe regular and print and online columnist, Mike Barnicle, challenged Montel to help do something about the proliferation of gun violence perpetrated by madmen and encouraged by NRA financed legislators in the nation’s capital.
Barnicle asked Montel if he would consider using his status as a television personality, former United States Marine, and gun owner to rally support for sensible gun regulations among groups like the five living presidents and other prominent Americans who would choose to join in. The group would form an alternative to the NRA that would raise funds and lobby against those legislators who have blind obeisance to the NRA by supporting candidates friendly to legislating for more reasonable gun regulations. The new organization would raise funds like the NRA by selling memberships for $5 or $10 among the majority of Americans that oppose the current lack of leadership regarding sane gun laws. Polling indicates that most of us are sick and tired of the mass shootings that have plagued us over the past 20 years and have resulted in 18 massacres in the first two months of this year.
If you are in, tweet or email Montel and Morning Joe to show your interest and do the same for all who follow you. This is a movement that is above party and politics and is long past due. Are you tired of feeling powerless and angry as greedy politicians offer meaningless and hypocritical prayers and condolences? I know I am—sick and tired. I’m in, how about you?
