Florida Congressional candidate Kristen Rosen Gonzalez wants an excise tax on bullets of $2 each.
How about making that a yearly tax on the possession of guns and ammo? Give exemptions for small collections of legitimate hunting rifles and handguns for personal protection. But the yearly cost of owning a weapon of war should be at least the same as buying it. Add a yearly tax per bullet for semiautomatic ammo. Make it a stamp tax, so it doesn’t constitute a ‘registry’. The rates can be designed to offset the damage weapons do to society. Add on another tax for lead bullets to cover the damage they do to the environment.
Oh wait — releasing lead into the environment causes _incalculable_ damage. Guess we’ll have to confiscate Don Jr.’s and Eric’s inheritances right now...
