It’s exciting times to be working on a campaign here in Texas. Early voting for the primaries is underway, and the final push to get out the vote and turn out on March 6th is in full swing. We’re working hard to get our candidate elected. I attended our most recent meeting on Thursday and our office was packed with volunteers getting their final assignments for calls, text messaging, door knocking, and posting campaign signs. It was great to see so many energized people ready to make real change happen in their home district.
We were there because we believe in our candidate. We know Ruby is the best woman for the job, and after her decades of service to the city as a school counselor, ordained minister, and board member of the city’s Parks and Recreation we know she not only is ready to do more but we know she cares about her neighbors in the district.
We’re also determined to make this campaign happen with small dollar donations and grassroots support, not massive super PACs and dark money. Ruby brought in over 100,000 votes in 2016 while spending less than 50 cents per vote AND being outspent 20:1 by her well-heeled Republican incumbent rival. With so much done with so little last time, we know we can make this a big victory with just a little bit more support. But why should you support Ruby, you may wonder? Is she truly the right woman for the job? Don’t just take my word for it! This week we received the endorsement of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D, TX-30)!
It’s a big deal, getting the endorsement of a sitting congressperson before the the primary, but she’s not alone in her support. Just take a look at some of the other names on our list:
Texas Primary elections are on March 6th! Please visit us at www.vote4ruby.org today and donate, or you can donate via our ActBlue account!
Ruby has been endorsed by the two biggest newspapers in the Metroplex:
The Dallas Morning News — “Decades of inspired community service make Ruby Faye Woolridge the best choice over four first-time candidates in the Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District.”
The Fort Worth Star Telegram — “So we considered: who would be the representative most likely to help a constituent who called with a problem?...[Ruby] impressed us as someone who rolls up her sleeves to find solutions.”
We also have the endorsements of:
- Alisa Simmons, NAACP President (Arlington, TX branch)
- Roy Brooks, Tarrant County Commissioner
- DFW Democrats
- NEA (National Education Association)
- TSTA (Texas State Teachers Association)
- Dallas Chinese Daily
- Dr. Lyndia Thomas, Mayor of Forest Hill, TX
And so many more individual endorsements from local precinct chairs, election judges, attorneys, business owners, activists, ministers, and more that are coming in every day!
We know with positive endorsements and support like this we can run a winning campaign backed by the people, not big donors. Ruby hasn’t taken a single penny from the NRA (and isn’t going to, either!), and we haven’t taken any “dark money” or major PAC donations. In fact, out of all the money we’ve received, only ONE donation was from a PAC: the TSTA’s PAC. After three decades of work with the Fort Worth and Arlington schools as a counselor, Ruby is proud to be supported by local educators. They know she’ll fight for better schools and better education, and were happy to put their money where their mouth was.
This is where you, the readers out there, come in: some of our biggest waves of support have come from DailyKos! In 2016 the first diary I wrote about Ruby brought in thousands of dollars to the campaign after just the few hours it spent in the spotlight on the rec list. Each time we post here, we get help from Democrats around the country wanting to help. If you’re in a blue state, wondering how you can make a REAL difference this year in a wave election, this is your chance!
We just need a few hundred dollars at this time to push out a last round of mailings and buy more signs to get the word out among primary voters and provide us with some real momentum moving from the primary into general election strategy. Every little bit, even $5 or $10, makes a big difference (and most of our donations are from small donors just like you already!). Your support will pay for more pushcards and campaign signs, metal stakes for those signs, VAN access so we can continue to target Democratic voters for GOTV efforts, and (perhaps most importantly to those of us on the front lines) pizza for hungry volunteers finishing up their block walking and sign posting. It’s been dreary, rainy weather this week and our determined people are out there every day! It’s so exciting, I hope you’ll join us in this history-making campaign to give the Texas 6th its first Democratic representative in over 30 years, and its first African-American Woman representative ever!
You can donate via our website, or our ActBlue page! Please help us bring home another seat in this coming blue wave!
