With the final nail being put into the coffin by the US Supreme Court of the disgusting and unconstitutional gerrymander done to the state of Pennsylvania by the Republican Party led by Ed Gillespie and Karl Rove, we are now set to move forward to REAL elections in the Keystone State.
The third largest county in the state, Montgomery County, is finally getting a district that represents most of the county. In the past the GOP used “cracking” and “packing” to split up the blue county to dilute its voting strength. The new PA-4 is a Democratic leaning district and the winner of the Democratic primary is favored to win the general election.
The district has attracted four excellent candidates. I have now seen them speak a few times. There is one though that I think stands out. State Rep. Madeleine Dean of the 153rd State House district is the best choice for the Democratic Party going forward.
She brings a needed experience in legislating as a progressive. She holds the seat previously held by our great liberal state Attorney-General Josh Shapiro in the state legislature. We don’t have to settle for a “moderate” in this district.
At the well attended candidate forum last night, there was very little substantive disagreement among the candidates on issues. They were all progressives. However, people want a fighter now. They want someone to take it to Paul Ryan and the other lapdogs of Donald Trump. She had the passion and I think the most skill in connecting to the voters.
We also need a woman in the PA congressional delegation. We have 20 men. Here is our chance to bring some much needed diversity and fire to our state delegation.
