Received this e-mail today from former Secretary of State, U.S. Senate candidate and Military Veteran, Jason Kander (D MO), in support of Secretary of State Alex Padilla’s (D. CA) re-election campaign:
I'm excited to introduce you to my friend Alex Padilla. As the Secretary of State of California, Alex has been a true partner in the fight to protect voting rights and to increase access to the ballot.
Alex is running for re-election in California, and he needs your help. Will pitch in $5 or $10 so Alex can continue standing up for voting rights?
While Republicans doggedly try to roll back progress at every turn, Alex successfully passed legislation to implement Automatic Voter Registration in California. Because of his work, anyone who goes to the DMV in California will be automatically registered to vote if they’re eligible.
In 2016, Alex passed the Voter's Choice Act, which allows voters more options for Early Voting, Same Day Registration and Voting by Mail. He launched pre-registration for 16 and 17-year-olds to prepare tens of thousands of young people to vote. He’s championed the law to re-enfranchise former felons who are integrating back into society. The progress Alex has made is an example of what’s possible when we elect voting rights champions.
And when the Trump Administration created its Sham Voting Commission, Alex was the first Secretary of State in the nation to refuse the commission’s request for voters' private information. He stood strong and ultimately prevailed. Trump disbanded his commission in January.
In this era when Republicans are determined to suppress the vote, we have to stay vigilant. We need a fighter like Alex Padilla to continue standing up for voting rights.
I am thrilled to support Alex in his re-election campaign and I'm asking you to do the same by chipping in $5, $10 or whatever you can afford. We can't lose Alex's leadership and dedication.
Thank you,
Jason Kander
