offered in light of recent events, and the information floating around both that Trump wants to get rid of Rosenstein and that Rosenstein expects to be fired, and is at peace with that.
This is just a “what if” that has no basis in fact, and is merely speculation on my part.
We know that since the occupant of the Oval Office is apparently no longer willing to sit for an interview with Mueller & company, there is absolutely no reason Mueller cannot now submit his report/recommendations on obstruction.
so here’s the what if: what if Mueller and team had, expecting Trump to interfere with their investigation, been drafting that document all along?
What if they completed the document this weekend, or perhaps even early next week?
What if Rosenstein had been kept up to date on the current status of that document, meaning he would already have read whatever is drafted?
So here is the thinking — tomorrow or early in the week Mueller submits the report on obstruction and Rosenstein does two things immediately:
1. releases it to the public as being in the national interest
2. refers it to the House for consideration
Imagine the firestorm.
Would not at that point any firing of EITHER Rosenstein or Mueller not support a clear — and impeachable — conclusion of obstruction of justice?
Would not that present Republicans in the House with a clear political problem going into the midterm elections?
Not saying any of this has been going on (either ongoing writing or keeping Rosenstein in loop on drafting) but given the known threats to the integrity of the investigation, it is at least possible.
Just saying …..
