Received this e-mail today from Braddock Mayor John Fetterman’s (D. PA) Lt. Governor campaign:
I'm always honored to receive any kind of endorsement, but the endorsement we just received from Equality Pennsylvania will sit extra close to my heart during this race.
My support for the LGBTQ community has always stemmed from my belief in equality, fairness, and the guiding principle that no person deserves to be left behind or forgotten. So when I saw couples being denied their right to marry the person they loved back in 2013, I did what I knew was right, and I officiated weddings for same-sex couples right in my home in Braddock.
Looking back, it's hard to imagine that we could've ever denied an entire group of people their rights just because of who they are. And while we've made strides on marriage equality nationally, there are still no protections for LGBTQ people built into PA law — meaning that you can be fired from your job, denied a mortgage, or even denied service at a restaurant just because of your sexual orientation or gender identity in Pennsylvania.
Will you stand with our campaign and Equality Pennsylvania to put protections into law for our LGBTQ friends and neighbors here in Pennsylvania? Sign the petition now.
With Equality PA now officially on Team Fetterman, we'll continue to bring LGBTQ issues to the forefront of this campaign, and strive to make Pennsylvania a place where no one gets left behind or forgotten just because of who they are.
