There is a great story on Truthdig by Lee Camp covering the “misplacement” of $21 trillion by the Pentagon between 1998 and 2015. This happened to exceed the budget authorized by Congress by 50 times but, you know, stuff happens.
The Corporate Political Parties believe that spending money is only a problem if it is spent by poor people, brown people, or by Obama. There is no amount of money that can be spent policing the World that may be considered excessive. We now train and equip over 100 countries with our most expensive toys.
The Pentagon has a direct pipeline to funds through the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) account set up to fight Arabs and such during the Iraq War. This has morphed into a bottomless pit of taxpayer money or IOU’s in the form of Bonds that are then purchased with phoney dollars printed by the Federal Reserve. The private Federal Reserve Bank is surely aware of the risk being created but chose to stoke the boilers in the Gravey Train anyway. But the Fed says “not to worry” because we only buy Bonds after they are sold on the open market. What could go wrong.
Without this cash injection of dark money into the bloodstream of America it is hard to say what would really happen to jobs and prosperity when the IV is turned off. This prospect is so terrifying to the elected class that I don’t expect to see much investigation from either side of the isle in Congress.
