My hometown goes to the polls today to replace the disgraced US Rep Farenthold (pajama boy). Unfortunately this race has dawn very little attention from the media or party leaders, and I have to question why. This district has a PVI of R+13. This is well within the range of special elections that have received the attention an resources to make them competitive. So, I have to question WHY?
Texas — 27 runs from the suburbs of Houston (Fort Bend County which in 2016 turned blue), to Corpus Christi a majority Hispanic county. This district is majority Hispanic and less than forty percent White. If demography is destiny this district should be blue.
The Democratic Party nominated a very mainstream/establishment candidate Eric Holguin (former aid to US Rep Carolyn Maloney D-NY). The republican candidate only political experience is as the Victoria County Repub chair (my home town).
The democrats put up a mainstream, very qualified candidate in a majority minority district, but still no help or interest from the national party. We are told all we have to do is wait for non-whites to become a majority and we will be unbeatable, but that does not apply in this case.
We could have ans should have made a real effort on this one, but we got nothing. is it because we do not want to draw attention to a district that is 60% minority but we still can not win, or is it just hatred and abandonment of Texas Democrats.
Why has the party abandoned Texas again??
