When I was a kid we were a Chet Huntley, David Brinkley household. In other words we watched NBC News. Walter Cronkite was CBS and I don’t even recall who was on ABC( I could look it up but that’s not the point). Today we have a multitude of options via the internet, cable and our mobile devices. Blogs, podcast, Twitter, FB and various Home Page news sources.
Ten years ago many of us on this site first saw a story here. It could take a few days or up to a week to see a BREAKING story that for us was old news. Keith Olbermann helped the cable channels catch up to what was happening online, then came Rachel. Some of the headlines we’re seeing today feel like reruns of Rachel Maddow’s shows from as long as two years ago. Some of them so long ago she’s even forgotten she covered it(or so it seems).
I read multiple newspapers daily. Not the whole thing, but stories from them. The national names but also local or regional ones too. I get to these newspapers via links. Links from here or Twitter or a Homepage from one of my devices or search engines.
I also read stories from online news sources like The Daily Beast. I try to be discerning, but I see even experienced and knowledgeable people spread questionable headlines. I try not to let my biases rule my common sense. The old saying “If it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t.” stands today as much as it ever has. Trump et al are pushing that old axiom. Their arrogance and stupidity are boundless and set them and us up for headlines that shouldn’t be true but are.
Where do you get your news? Think about it. You may start here, but don’t you click the link and read the source material too? What about Twitter or FB? I’m on Twitter all day, clicking on the links in the tweets behind the story. I love the humor and smack-downs too.
So seriously. Where do you get your news today?
