In a NYT article “The Shutdown Shows the Weakness of the Resistance” by opinion columnist David Leonhardt, David captures my outrage precisely. Since we “broke the glass” over the firing of racist AG Jeff Sessions, we’ve been all but silent. Whittaker has been in office for over a month, doing what damage we don’t know, and we’ve done nothing? Wm. Barr is about to become the new AG and we’ve done nothing?
And now, 30 days into a partial shutdown that is absolutely nothing short of a financial disaster for our friends and neighbors who work for the Fed, wherein some are forced to chose meals or meds, beg food at the pantry, face losing their homes / apartments, we are silent? All those who are being forced to work without pay...how they **** are they supposed to get by? Eh? And we are silent?
As David points out, those in Europe are just aghast at our silence. My friends in Europe are aghast.
I’ve written MoveOn and Indivisible to ask what’s the plan. I’ve spoken at the local Indivisible meeting. The response is the same: Huh? What? Oh, we’re waiting for any action against the Mueller report. Duh...that’s not going to help here.
The Mitch McConnell the turtle will not move until there’s enough outcry from the public. What / who are we waiting for here? What message are we sending by our silence and acquiescence? That Donnie can do this to our people and our nation and we’ll just watch. We ain’t gonna win this way, folks.
Remember, Nixon was afraid that the protesters were going to come right into the White House. We’ve gotta be just as loud and just as threatening.
