I am a follower of the one they call freewayblogger. As a junior associate, I am only allowed on state highways. That’s not true, it’s just that South Carolina senators are so ineffectual, the nearest interstate to Myrtle Beach is 116 miles away.
So, I get to pretty up State Highway 17. This is where I put up signs:
I’ve been putting up signs for some time now, but had to get some new ones out for Impeachment Fever (Catch it!). The one below I tried to hang on a billboard last week, but my engineering skills are that of a toddler. I ended up putting it on a fence next to the entrance to Market Commons on highway 17:
As you can see, I have the photography and typesetting skills of a grade school kid. I always use transparent packing tape on my big signs because it rains here a lot, and even when it is not raining, there’s almost always 86% to 99% humidity.
The sign below I put up in the wee hours this past Sunday:
I tried again to put this sign on a billboard, but alas my toddler engineering skills got in the way. So I put it a little farther down highway 17 across from a Waffle House. I made sure to put this one near a street light so that I could photograph it.
A blue and white Myrtle Beach police SUV drove by me while I was trying to put it up on the billboard (a poorly thought-out rope and pulley strategy). Luckily, I was wearing the very best disguise one can find in this town: Guy with a ball cap on a bicycle wearing a backpack and carrying some cardboard. They think I’m a transient, and nobody seems to want to talk to those poor souls.
I also put some smaller signs up with bits of scrap cardboard (see image to the right). They read “Impeach,” “Liar” and “Impeach.” Those are just nailed quickly to telephone poles or palm trees next to the highway and are not covered in transparent tape.
It’s still very busy here in Myrtle Beach on the weekends. There are really only three entrances into the city, so these signs get some traffic every day they stay up.
On a final note, let me tell you this, amigos: Our friend freewayblogger has been suspended from Twitter. He still has a presence in a tribute account called politicallandscaping. The handle is @politicallands1.
If you have a minute and a twitter account, I recommend a follow of it. The signs are great and very motivational. Also funny!
Cheers!
