The primary attribute Howard Schultz would contribute to the 2020 race, should he decide to run, would be terrific comedic value.
We’ve already been treated to this: An uber-rich, tone-deaf CEO-type who looks increasingly befuddled at the angry, often vitriolic, response his nascent candidacy has generated. It’s just flat-out fun to watch!
The fact that he actually seemed to believe that a “60 Minutes” puff piece and his inane, self-congratulatory book launch would rocket him instantly to the top tier of 2020 candidates shows so much clueless, CEO-style hubris that one has to, literally, laugh out loud.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Steve Schmidt and Bill Burton, odd bedfellows in every way but their overwhelming desire to relieve Schultz of several million of his billions, told him, “You’re the best, you’re the smartest, you’re just what America needs right now!”
Only an ego-maniacal CEO would believe that line of horseshit, because, of course, that’s what work life was like: you make an announcement and everyone in the room nods in rapid assent.
The attitude from the arrogant rich deigning to offer themselves in public service to America always is, “I’m doing this for you, not for me!”
Thanks for thinking of us little people, Howie.
And thank you in advance for the laughs.
