Hilde Lysiak made a name for herself in 2016 by being the first to report on a grisly murder in her hometown. Since then, she has continued to break news about bank robberies, alleged rapes and other lurid crimes in the Orange Street News, the paper she publishes out of her parents' home in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
So naturally, she didn’t back down when Joseph Patterson, the town marshal in Patagonia, Arizona, allegedly threatened to throw her in juvenile jail on Monday, then falsely claimed it would be illegal for her to film him and publish the video on the Internet.
Instead, she posted their exchange on YouTube and in the Orange Street News — which in turn prompted town officials to discipline Patterson.
Hilde Lysiak is going to go far! Bravo both to her and to her parents who support and encourage her involvement in her citizenship and community interests!
There are always some in law enforcement who believe that because they are a sworn LEO that the badge they carry and display gives them a license to dictate exactly what you may or may not do. Thankfully, most of the people serving as LEO’s are intelligent and capable of rationally interacting with the people they “serve and protect.”
Again, I say Kudos to Hilde Lysiak, and thank her for setting an excellent example for others around her!
