“Indeed, given my experience working for Mr. Trump, I fear that if he loses the election in 2020 that there will never be a peaceful transition of power, and this is why I agreed to appear before you today.” Michael Cohen 02/27/19 closing statement to House Oversight Committee
The following is a fictitious account of the 2020 election.
November 3rd 2020
6:30 am
You wake earlier than normal to vote. There is some news about the Ukraine situation but you don’t have time to listen to it. You grab your coffee, id and registration card and head to the polls. In all of your years in the neighborhood you have never seen this level of participation. It seemed like every weekend for the last six months; people were canvassing the area, registering people to vote, talking to people about the issues and organizing rides to the polling places. Bill, who lives across the street, told you yesterday that he was driving Mrs. Washington and Mr. Nguyen to the polling station today!
7:30 am
You arrive at your polling place, The Barrack Obama Middle School and the line is around the block. You are excited! This is not the Blue Wave, this is going to be a Blue Tsunami! But as the line turns the corner of the building your excitement begins to fade as you see the line of men in camouflage and tactical vests across the street. Their vest are festooned with decals, some say Observer but many of them say Oath Keeper. You recognize one of the men as an Open Carry advocate from the local news and the Punisher patch on his vest make you shiver!
8:30 am
The election workers are understaffed and overwhelmed! People are shouting and angry. Voters have been purged from the rolls. You get your ballot and see in the corner your neighbor Bill shouting at an election worker. “Why was Mr. Nguyen given a provisional ballot? He has been a citizen since ’93 and has voted in every election since!” It has never been like this and you are getting mad. You wish you could help your neighbors out but you have to get into work and finish the TPS reports for your supervisor. You cast your vote for the Warren/Harris and laugh to yourself thinking that this is the end of Pee Pee/Pence.
You have done your civic duty and as you walk to your car you see the flash of police lights and hear the tumult of the crowd that has grown outside. You hear chants of “Keep America Great!” and the loud curses that reply. You have to see what is going on! But a police cruiser stops abruptly in front of you and the officer jumps out with a hand on his service weapon. He tells you that if you have voted you need to move on.
You comply because that was how you were raised but the sight of the Black/White and Blue American flag on his police cruiser haunts you on your drive back to work. They have their own flag, it is not ours.
11:30 am
You finally arrive at work, two hours late and your supervisor is angry. He is threatening to write you up but if he does you may lose your job and your health insurance. You plead with him and apologize and then tell him you will work through lunch and break to get the TPS reports finished.
For the rest of the afternoon you work diligently at you r job, taking an occasional break to check you cell phone. You have many text messages from friends telling you a very similar story and its happening around the country. Trouble and Chaos in multiple polling place throughout the city with fights breaking out between voters and unauthorized observers. You have alerts from your favorite news site that tells you about Putin's denial of Russian involvement in the Ukrainian Crisis.
4:30 pm
Most of the office is gone by now. Kelly stops by to tell you how she saw a tweet from Trump where he said that the Elections had been hacked in favor of the Democrats. You take out your phone to take a look at FacePage and your phone won’t connect. In fact your phone won’t connect to anything. You can’t connect to the internet, you cannot text a message and you can’t make a call. You turn to your desk top computer and open the browser. Nothing….
You are making your way to the break room when you hear the screech of the National Emergency Broadcast system. There are a few of your coworkers in the break room staring at the screen as President Trump begins his speech from the oval office. He has issued a Nation Emergency due to the hacking of our election system by foreign powers and has ordered the military to DEFCON 1. They elections will be suspended until after this crisis is over. He talks of Russian invasion of Ukraine and how the USA will respond. He talks of curfews and martial law and about terrorists causing violence on the streets. He says that he hopes local police can rough them up and restore peace.
Suspended elections! State of Emergency! Martial Law!
You cannot believe what is happening and do not notice your coworkers leaving. It isn’t until you hear the reports of automatic weapons that you realize that you need to do something. But what will you do?
What will you do when this happens?
Trump will never accept losing the 2020 election. That is not how he operates! He will tear down this nation in order to keep what power he has and insure that he and his family will not be prosecuted for any crimes they have committed.
