Good afternoon, it’s Wednesday, March 20, 2019, and time for the list of stories published on Liberal Minded Ladies of Substance today.
One thing that appeared on LMLOS but not here was my bit on Mike Gravel’s possible entry to the 2020 race. That’s because I already posted a diary about it here. Check it out and leave your thoughts.
I did get more than a little distracted with the Gravel news, so I’m running a bit behind today. I’m also trying to be a bit more healthy and cut back on the caffeine. Currently, I’m drinking tea instead of coffee. I can feel the difference, which is also why I am determined to see this through. Coffee was leaving me feeling a bit wonky, but lack of coffee is also leaving me feeling a bit wonky in a different way.
I’m doomed.
If you like having your news gathered for you from various sources, please continue to recommend these Round-Ups and consider buying me a coffee on Ko-fi.com. It helps me continue to write, homeschool, and run the political news aggregate page.
As always, I will hold a comment thread below to post additional news stories throughout the day.
NEWS STORIES
Rob Lowe’s ‘Hardworking Son’s’ Comment Throws Shade At The Entire College Admissions Scandal -- (Guacamoley) Rob Lowe threw some shade at the people caught up in the cheating scandal. His son took up the mantle for him.
Trump renews call to pull arts, PBS funding -- (The Hill) Trump's budget is an affront to everything that really does make America great.
Cop Working at High School Revealed as White Nationalist Organizer -- (Daily Beast) The School to Prison Pipeline is a real thing, and the fact that White Nationalists are drawn to law enforcement positions only secures that funneling of Black children into jails. It is systemic racism in action.
Mitch McConnell Thinks Expanding Voting Rights Is “Half-Baked Socialism” -- (Hill Reporter) It is entirely unsurprising that Mitch McConnell thinks that supporting and expanding voting rights is socialism. The GOP doesn't want people to vote because Democracy actually interferes with their oligarchy.
Medicare for America, Beto O’Rourke’s favorite health care plan, explained -- (Vox) Medicare For All and what it should look like is an important policy debate that is getting some real attention this primary cycle. I will not support a primary candidate who is not in favor of giving health care to all people in the United States. "Fixing" the ACA isn't enough. We need real change.
Donald Trump: I Was 'Never A Fan Of John McCain And Never Will Be' -- (HuffPo) I heard him say this in his press conference with Bolsanaro, and I was appalled. The GOP has allowed their party to court the white supremacists and extremists, and Trump is the product of that. They should, as a whole, be ashamed.
Trump weighs in on Conways' marriage in escalation of feud with top aide's husband -- (CNN) I can't be the only one watching this showdown with a bucket of popcorn nearby. Seeing Conway tweet to Trump this morning: "You. Are. Nuts." was probably more invigorating than coffee.
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner Used Government as a 'Piggybank' and 'Pose a Very Serious Threat to Our Security,' Author Says -- (Newsweek) Ward makes some serious claims against the duo. I think it highlights that Ivanka is nothing if not Daddy's Girl and probably the best person to continue Donald's gilded shitheap of a plan. She's not smart, but she is determined that nothing will get between her and power.
Flags and Other Symbols Used By Far-Right Groups in Charlottesville -- (SPLC) Knowing these symbols will help you combat hate when you see it. If they advertise their hate, we must call them out now. We cannot allow them to go unchallenged.
