Guess what? We’re still standing.
November 2016 was the worst month of my life. I didn’t know what I was going to do moving forward. I knew that the next *resident was going to be an awful, vile man who cared only about himself and his basket of deplorables. The worst, in my mind, was how he would stack the courts and repeal the Affordable Care Act. I worried about the Dreamers and those who were a different religion or ethnicity than him. I think I spent most of November in a giant funk. The Village helped me retain a semblance of my sanity.
Then came January 2017 and the first Woman’s March. I wanted to attend the one in DC but the airline cost was way too much. So, I marched locally. As I did, I saw the women and men just like me; all determined to never stop protesting this administration and fighting for the country that we love. We thought we wouldn’t succeed in our protests, but we have.
- Thanks to Senator McCain, we saved the ACA.
- I don’t remember how many times, but we have stopped a few of the most intolerable judicial nominees from getting appointed.
- We’ve kept pressure on his cabinet and have forced resignations/firing on several.
- The big, beautiful blue wave brought us the House and breathing space on spending plans and other legislation that we can now block.
- The average number of legislative actions found to be valid in previous administrations? 72%. Turnip’s? 6%. The courts have been on our side more often than not.
We have been through a lot. We aren’t done yet. But we are still standing (and that’s really good news).
You never know how you can effect a life.
What a great Samaritan.
I’d like to think we all would.
I like them raw, so...
So, who’s a good boy?
Strong people stand up for themselves, but stronger people stand up for others.
