It’s Monday, April 22, 2019, and we’re here for another set of news stories from Liberal Minded Ladies of Substance.
Easter was a good holiday. I made homemade mashed potatoes and bread for the family meal, both of which were popular and delicious. We also had ham, brussels sprouts, buttered carrots, and trifle for dessert. The bunny dropped off candy and toy soldiers at our house and left a large chocolate egg at his grandmother’s house.
The weather is definitely trending warmer, and the sun is shining, but we’ve discovered the painful truth of Spring. Allergies. Boychild and I have been going around sneezing like crazy. Trying to get these news stories gathered while the sun is shining is proving to be more distracting than I anticipated. Soon, I need to get out into the garden and prettify the area.
I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and spent time with family!

Senator Maureen Walsh Says ‘Nurses Play Cards All Day’ And More [Video] -- (973 The Dawg) WTAF. Obviously someone privileged enough to have never had to spend time in a hospital.
90 Percent of Teens Killed by Their Partners Are Girls—and Most of the Killers Are Men -- (Newsweek) The girls are under 18, but their partners are generally over the age of 18. The youngest was 11. The most commonly used weapon, handguns.
Giuliani: 'There's nothing wrong with taking information from Russians' -- (CNN) Do these people actually believe what they are saying? "It's OK to take information from a foreign country that we've spent decades fighting with. There's no collusion. Why would they do anything to harm our country?"
AP FACT CHECK: Trump, AG spread untruths on Mueller report -- (AP) I wish they would call them what they are. LIES. It's not "misrepresentations" or "untruths." Trump, Barr, and the GOP team are LYING.
Warren proposes $640 billion student debt cancellation -- (Politico) Warren seems to realize that looking to "moderate" Republicans for votes and calling it centrism is a losing strategy. This is a good policy and has launched her into third place on my ranked list.
After Democrats Surged In 2018, Republican-Run States Eye New Curbs On Voting -- (NPR) So, instead of running better candidates, the GOP will just find ways to prevent people from exercising their right to vote. The GOP screams "voter fraud" and target minorities and the poor when overwhelmingly, the people who have actually KNOWINGLY and WILLFULLY committed voter fraud are white conservatives.
'When Workers Fight, Workers Win': Union Declares Victory as Stop & Shop Strike Ends With Deal to Raise Wages -- (Common Dreams) #UnionStrong I'm sure it didn't help the corporation's stance that they were willing to pay scabs $25 an hour. If they can afford to pay scabs that amount, they can pay the #StopAndShopWorkers a living wage. The biggest help probably came from the support of the shoppers though. 75% of regular shoppers DID NOT CROSS THE PICKET LINE.
Trump erupts over impeachment as congressional proceedings loom: 'You can’t impeach' -- (Independent) He keeps saying Democrats committed crimes that they are trying to impeach him for, but he never clarifies what those are. Warren and Castro have both explicitly said he needs to be impeached.
Trump, Trump Organization sue House Oversight's Elijah Cummings to block subpoena -- (Axios) Trump is (again) claiming this is all set up by the Democrats. I think it's really clear he doesn't want his finances looked at, and I'm not so sure it's just because he's not as rich as he claimed to be. He put himself in power and obviously has piles of skeletons he doesn't want revealed.
Sarah Sanders Lies About Reporter Who Called for Her to Be Fired for Lying -- (NY Mag) Sarah "Lying" Sanders can't seem to help herself. She must be a pathological liar since, like her boss, her lies are so obvious and easily disproven. Either that or she's too stupid to understand metaphors. "Only the best people"?
Sanders Calls for Veto Override Vote on Yemen Resolution -- (Sanders Senate) Bernie Sanders is still fighting the good fight in the Senate even while on the campaign trail. He is calling for a veto override on Trump's Yemen veto. We must support him in his efforts to put a stop to the endless wars that our country is involved in. My child has never lived in an America that was not at war. There are children of veterans in the Middle Eastern war who are now fighting the places their parents fought in. This is not right.
The Mueller Report Shows Politicians Must Unite to Fight Election Interference -- (Foreign Affairs) The GOP are obviously going to embrace any sort of interference that maintains their power, and they are going to do what they can to stop people from voting. We need to fight for electoral reform and fight to protect the integrity of our votes. We cannot do that with our current system.
