A case in point.
Below is a complaint I sent to my state’s Attorney General's division of Consumer Affairs today:
"As an incentive to becoming a new Verizon customer, Verizon is offering a Samsung Chromebook or a $200 credit towards "any Samsung product", which can be redeemed after 30 days of becoming a new customer. I attempted to redeem this offer yesterday. I went to the Samsung page through my account as instructed, and found only a select group of items available. I then searched on the specific item I wanted (a 32" Class N5300 Smart TV) but it was only offered with the standard $30 discount. I then actually thought I'd settle for a 43" Class RU7100 Smart 4K UHD TV-(2019), which is listed on their page of "eligible products". This model was listed clearly with a $250 discount. ( https://www.samsung.com/us/shop/fios/leadoffer/?couponCode=RC7HYEGA7). But when I went to add this item to my cart, I was only offered the standard $50 discount.I then opened a chat with a Verizon customer service person who assured me that the $200 discount would be applied to ANY Samsung product (she believed I was a potential new customer). Here is the relevant part of the thread of that conversation:
"You: Could you be more specific? Do you mean it can't be applied toward a TV for instance?Jessica: You can buy any product of Samsung.
You: So, I would be eligible for a $200 discount off of any Samsung product costing over $200?Jessica: Yes, you are right!"(I have a copy of the actual thread saved on my computer).
Just now I called customer service and they told me that no, only the products shown on the page were eligible for a discount (clearly not what new customers are being told). When I told her about the $250 discount displayed on the "eligible page" turning to a $50 discount, she at first said they must be out of them. I told her that this was then a massive bait & switch operation, and she told me to hold on the phone. When she came back after some time, she gave me a web address to go to which did list the 43" inch TV as one of the products available for the $200 discount, but the there was no specifying of that actual discount on this page. And when I clicked on the item, it also just showed a standard $50 discount. When I asked what happened to the $200-250 discount she said this was Samsung's own product page and had nothing to do with Fios (even though the web address she sent me to was www.samsung.com/us/shop/fios.I believe Verizon is in the middle of a massive fraud being perpetrated on unwitting new customers.Thank you.
btw; The day I signed with them, a previous "offer" was in effect, which was a simple $200 cash back guarantee. When I asked them about it, they said it just happened to expire that very day...."
