Received this e-mail today from the Council for a Livable World in support of U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley’s (D. OR) re-election campaign:
Council for a Livable World is working hard to elect a Senate for which Mitch McConnell no longer serves as majority leader — he has blocked critical legislation including things that would make America safer. At the same time, we have to hold the line and ensure that crucial national security leaders such as Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) return to the Senate in 2021 to help lead on our issues.
Merkley recently helped organize bipartisan support in favor of preventing U.S. military action against Iran. The vote sent a direct message to the Trump administration that a new, unconstitutional war in the Middle East would be a disaster.
He argued recently, “we must not leave the decision to go to war with this bombastic, mercurial man who conducts foreign policy via Twitter.”
He also helped to lead the fight to prevent the Trump administration from abandoning President Reagan’s Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and to prevent Saudi Arabia from building nuclear weapons.
We are proud to have endorsed Senator Merkley in his 2020 Senate campaign. Please consider a generous donation to his campaign.
Getting involved in congressional elections is a key part of our work. Thank you for your continued support of our endorsed candidates.
Sincerely,
John Tierney
Executive Director
Council for a Livable World
Member of Congress, 1/3/1997–1/3/2015
