"Americans have played into Russian President Vladimir Putin's hands—again," Steve LeVine, editor at Axios, writes. "It is assumed he can attack next year's elections if he so chooses, but since no outsider knows exactly how, what comes next is one of the great underlying mystery-dramas of the 2020 election campaign."
Notice that use of "Americans," as if it is all of us and not the Republican Party and not Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who has put us in that very position by refusing to act. Yes, Russia (and quite possibly other foreign adversaries) are going to be engaging in "espionage and trickery" and working social media and every other outlet they can find to sow division in our "already-fraught U.S. social turmoil." LeVine quotes a number of leading scholars and researchers who warn, strongly, that the nation needs to "buckle up."
Indeed we do. That involves calling out the primary obstacle to fighting this incursion: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Trump certainly isn't going to anything about it, as he’s terrified of casting any doubt on the legitimacy of the 2016 election. It's thus on the coequal branch of government—the Congress—to protect the next election.
It's on Moscow Mitch. And the sooner the serious scholars and the foreign policy experts and the thinkers and pundits in the traditional media start saying that—loudly and often—the better.
This has to end. Please give $1 to our nominee fund to help Democrats end McConnell's career as majority leader.
