From “One Nation Under a Groove” by George Clinton, Walter Morrison and Gary Shider.
Ready or not here we come
Gettin' down on the one which we believe in
Here's my chance to dance my way
Out of my constrictions
Political campaigns are emotional roller coasters. The highs are incredible and motivating, the inevitable lows frustrating and maddening. The important thing to always remember is to not let the roller coaster control and constrict you. Stay in the groove, stay focused on the goals, and this will be a ride you’ll never want to end.
This is why this song, “One Nation Under a Groove” speaks to me about this campaign and it’s goals. It’s about celebration, about defeating despair and anger, and, yeah, it’s also about dancing because, as Kamala has said, “there should be more dancing in politics”.
Kamala’s campaign remains in the Groove. The goal, after all, isn’t to lead the polls in August 2019, but to lead when it matters, in February and March when actual voting starts.
So she continues to release strong, progressive and practical policies that will benefit poor and middle class Americans. Policies that have been well received by the public.
Climate Equity Act:
www.harris.senate.gov/…
Introduced with Representative Alexandra Occasio Cortez, this Act ensures that the needs of vulnerable communities are at the forefront of decision making when introducing plans to combat climate change. Too often, vulnerable communities are used as a dumping ground for nuclear and industrial waste.
It will ensure that all impacted government agencies establish a position of Senior Advisor for Climate and Environmental Justice to ensure compliance and coordination between the Office of Climate and Environmental Justice Accountability, which will be tasked with representing the voices of these communities, and the relevant agency. This gives representatives of those vulnerable communities a seat at the table.
This policy is consistent with Kamala Harris’ understanding that no matter what the issue, vulnerable groups and communities need to have a voice at the table for their needs to be heard and to be understood. It also demonstrates how she understands the specific issues of marginalized communities.
It was this understanding that led her as a District Attorney to create, in 2005, an Environmental Justice Unit. “Crimes against the environment are crimes against communities, people who are often poor and disenfranchised," said Harris. "The people who live in those communities often have no other choice but to live there."
As Attorney General, she continued this work. In 2012, “Harris intervened in a lawsuit brought under the California Environmental Quality Act against Riverside County, challenging the county’s approval of an industrial project near a low-income, minority neighborhood that’s already disproportionately affected by diesel exhaust and noise pollution that would be exacerbated by the project“.
Tackling Climate Change and environmental issues for Kamala Harris hasn’t just been about cleaner air and water. At it’s core, from the time she was a District Attorney, climate change and environmental issues have been about JUSTICE.
Accountability for Wall Street Executives Act
time.com/...
Introduced with Representative Katie Porter, the law would empower States to “conduct oversight of national banks regarding compliance with state law, including giving them the ability to issue subpoenas to examine bank records and interview bank executives.“ As Attorney General, she was aware of the limitations imposed on her office by federal guidelines, an awareness Katie Porter, who administered the $25 billion settlement on her behalf, also shared. “The goal of the legislation is to deter the conditions that, experts say, led to the subprime mortgage crisis in the late aughts. And none of the major banks would seem to be immune.“
The Fight Against White Supremacy And Domestic Terrorism
In an Essence Magazine article she authored on August 22nd (www.essence.com/...) , Kamala brought her lived experience to the table in addressing an issue with which the country has long struggled. “As Black women, we have an intimate understanding of the fact that violence motivated by hatred and bigotry has always been present in our history. From the burning of Black Wall Street in 1921 to the Birmingham church bombing in 1963 to the Charleston church shooting in 2015 to today, Americans have been killed because of the color of their skin for far too long. “
Kamala proposed a multi pronged attack that includes gun control measures, “$2 billion of federal funding to investigating, disrupting, and prosecuting domestic terrorist“, empowering “law enforcement to temporarily seize the guns of a terrorist who may imminently commit a hate crime”, and revising the mission statement of the National Counterterrorism Center to include domestic terrorism in the mission.”
Feet don't fail me now (ha ha)
Here's a chance to dance
Our way out of our constrictions
Kamala is building organizations from the bottom up in California, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. She’s investing at the grassroots level because she knows how important that organization is. It’s that organization that ensures “feet don’t fail me now” when her voters are needed at the voting booth.
And as always, she builds with joy, enthusiasm, and positivity
One nation under a groove
gettin' down just for the funk
(Can I get it on the good foot)
Gettin' down just for the funk of it
(Good God)
(bout time I got down one time)
One nation and we're on the move
Nothin' can stop us now
Oh, and dancing...
And dancing…
And more dancing:
This campaign will have ups and downs. There will be happy and sad times. But, as Joyful Warriors, as long as we keep dancing and moving positively, intelligently and joyfully, this campaign is going to be right where we want it to be when it matters most.
Because as One Nation Under A Groove,
With the groove our only guide
We shall all be moved

Group Guidelines
The Kamala2020 community group has been created to positively support Senator Kamala Harris, and not to engage in negativity towards other Democrats running in the 2020 primaries.
All should be made to feel welcomed here. What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity — that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions — that’s 100% on us.
I’d like to ask all group members, as well as those dropping by who support or are interested in Kamala’s bid for the nomination, that we not respond to negativity from other campaign’s supporters with even more negativity. Let’s do better than our best and respond with respect, humor or try to hold our peace. Recipes and cat pics work, too 😃
Doing no harm costs us nothing... pie-fights will cost us everything.
