I first fell in love with Elizabeth Warren in 2012. Thanks to The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, I met a woman who was smart and informed- funny, yet passionate. I had never seen anyone on that show that had such a righteous take on the problems that we faced back then. My jaw dropped as I heard her talk about issues that really mattered, yet can’t be boiled down to bumper sticker memes.
And she kept going back. I never cared who was the guest on any talk show. Until her. She appeared at least 6 times with Jon. Every one was like a lesson on how to talk about important issues yet remain grounded with common speech. Every time she appeared, her star was a little more higher.
By the time 2015 rolled around, I was filling out every presidential poll I could get my hands on with a Biden/Warren ticket. Back then I figured Uncle Joe was in stride, he would have had an easy time carrying Obama’s programs and the electorate would settle down with yet another old white guy in the oval office. But Warren. She would have been a great VP, ratcheting up the progressive agenda while gaining the chops for the Resolute Desk. Back then I was convinced that no GOPper would ever win the White House again. After all, dubya couldn’t have screwed up the country any worse than he did. How could anyone vote for that party platform? Warren would have her shot in 2024. Alas, we all know what happened. The DNC gambled on Clinton. Bernie became the voice of the progressives.
And now, everybody gets to pay attention to what Warren has to say. She’s been saying it for awhile now. For the first time in my life, I’m watching someone run for president that I truly love, respect and root for. Don’t get me wrong, I was doing cartwheels for Obama. But I’ve had my eye on Liz for awhile now, and she makes my progressive heart soar with pride.
I’ve seen enough comments in other diaries here to know that there’s resistance to her. That’s fine, but check out some of the above linked interviews and articles, then tell me she isn’t someone we can rally around. I have the feeling your going to be hearing a lot more about/from her, so you better get used to it.
To those here that are just getting to know her and love what your finding out? I say, welcome to the bandwagon! I’m hoping like hell we get to call her Madame President.
