North Carolina Democrat Dan McCready really does have Republicans "scrambling" to hold on to a very red House seat in Tuesday's special, do-over election. This is the seat that Republicans quite literally attempted to steal last November. It's the final race of 2018. It's also the first race of 2020, because Republicans are making this all about Trump.
While the polling, internal and public, shows the race a dead heat, "privately, several Republican officials and strategists have conceded that Democrats may have an edge in voter enthusiasm in a district that President Trump won by nearly 12 points in 2016." They're hoping to gin up some more enthusiasm on their side by bringing Trump in. It's possible he'll juice things for Republican Dan Bishop. It's also possible he'll remind all the anti-Trump voters in the district that they have a chance to do something about it by voting on Tuesday.
They also have a chance to do something about the voter suppression and the fraud that has become the hallmark of North Carolina's Republican rule. That's what's been motivating McCready for the 27-month campaign this has turned into. He says it's about "justice" for voters. "This, for me, was a calling from the beginning. I was ready to go back to my four little kids and my clean-energy business after the race last time. But when we saw them steal people's most sacred right—the right to vote—I fought back because it was the right thing to do."
If you are in North Carolina or anywhere in the country, you can help. There are on-the-ground and virtual ways to get out the vote.
Volunteer to help GOTV either on the ground or virtually to get McCready over the finish line. And to keep Trump and Republicans running scared.
