On edit, I sketched this thinking she would be our president. If only. Sigh.
For the past two, three years, I’ve developed a bad habit. The instant I wake up, I turn on the iPad and check news to see if our residolt in chafe has started a nuclear shooting war.
This morning, my fears were realized.
Let’s warm up with a couple of simple lobs:
a. Not only is Trump the least curious, most unprepared, and most poorly educated among all other of the 44 who preceded him, he more than offsets those dangerous “facets” with hubris, conceit, and a willingness to fly by the seat of his Depends.
b. Regardless of who advises him on policy issues, Trump repeatedly exhibits one amazing talent. When an array of various policy choices or decisions arise, he is magically able to choose the worst possible option. Always, with absolutely unerring aim.
c. His business history repeatedly shows him to be a counterpuncher, a sucker puncher, and a general puncher. He never has planned for a follow-up to any decision he took before. Rather, being as easily distracted as a hungry large mouth bass as a Rápala Deep Tail Dancer happens to be dragged nearby on a ten ounce line, reaction, intimidation, and counterpunching is who and what he is. Hitchhiker’s Deep Thought computer would take a peek at what occupies his cranium, and probably self-destruct in a smoldering mass of silica bits, quantum field generators and plasma cooling injectors in a pile stacked higher than the Matterhorn.
d. This will not end well. Being a counterpuncher, he has no ability to compromise or negotiate. Topics like those are as alien to him as a real book or newspaper would be for most of his most argent athletic supporters. For him, negotiations are simply an opportunity to rub dirt in the face of a real or perceived opponent. It is his first, second, and last step in every situation. Iranians tend to honor someone’s word and deeds. Trump is neither reliable or trustworthy with either of those.
e. There will be resignations (under almost silent protest) from the train wreck of WH staffers still employed under Trump. It won’t happen today. Perhaps not this weekend. But people — let me correct that — even MORE people will finally have enough of this dangerous cretin and quit.
Already, the White House is having problems filling empty positions. Already, even loyal friends like Trey and Lindsay, reject job offers from Trump. 22 GOP congresscritters have made it known they are not coming back to the Bloatway. instead of having a cushy job, being whined and deigned by grotesque lobbyists who will be the first up against the wall when the revolution comes, free trips and junkets abroad, And lifetime benefits that come with their elected offices.
Assuming we survive the next few months, I suspect that folks, even conservo-Christianists who would walk over red hot coals for Duh FurHair, realize that he is a corrupt, ineffective, dangerous, and barely functional illiterate who is developing at least one full-blown, major mental illness. I suspect more and more senators will realize he must be removed. I predict impeachment will save the presidency, democracy and this flat earth. It won’t be easy, but people are too smart to let this cretinous moron continue to say in office.
Please do not think I discount the clear and present danger we face today. And tomorrow. And, with famous Persian patience, next month, even next year. Given Trump’s personality defects, this world is at a risk we haven’t experienced since SALT I and II managed to pry the world off the edge of a nuclear cliff. With top Iranian technology, self-created, imported, or stolen, it would be relatively simple to shut down the Gulf to oil tankers. A few mines, a long range missile, and/or their speedy surface ships that move far faster than a steel navy floating in formation (to protect the aircraft carriers), Iran can and will use surprises we did not consider likely or possible. It would be too easy to make the US bleed profusely as oil zips past $110 a barrel. Of course, in the face of a real or artificial gas & oil crisis, Trump will probably use executive orders to outlaw solar and wind power, just because. (See b. above)
Simply put, we will be forced to defend the entire Gulf. We put ourselves in that position. Or our feckless leader did. Surprise attacks are always easier, cheaper and more effective than being forced to defend an entire sea. (Think Pearl Harbor, 9/11 and some of the shocking Confederate victories over allegedly stronger, better armed, and better equipped Yankees)
Not only that, Trump has managed to insult every single country that would have willingly, even eagerly stood by us if was were justified. Instead, few, if any, of our purported allies trust Trump or his remaining advisors like Steve Miller. Mike Pompeo. Sean Hannity. or other crazies who he listens to.
