We are running out of days before the election, and now is the prime time to start engaging voters. Voters this year are facing more obstacles to cast their ballot than ever in recent history. Voters need to make a plan on how they can vote this election, and it’s going to take continuous encouragement from a friend or family member like you to get them there!
Mobilize to Win is a great program by MoveOn to help boost turnout in battleground states, using a strategy known as relational outreach. Relational outreach means folks only reach out to people they know as opposed to cold calling and attempting to connect with voters they don’t know.
Studies have shown that voters are far more receptive to being contacted by someone who they know personally than by a stranger who is only reaching out to them because their name is on a voter target list. Who would you rather hear from?
I just signed up, and I must admit, I was a little daunted at first because I don’t live in a battleground state, so I couldn’t figure out how I would be able to reach out to 10 folks who live in battleground states. But when I signed up, the Mobilize to Win campaign gave me some great ideas of how to remember how many people I DO know in battleground states, and I was elated! I don’t know how I forgot about all of my family members in Texas! I’m actually quite excited to engage with my family—not only to get them to vote, but catch up and see how they are doing, especially since hurricane season is upon us.
Mobilize to Win is fun because it’s people you already know. And it gives us another reason to reach out to the people we love. In the time of COVID we’re all a little isolated, so it’s refreshing to be able to engage with folks other than your cat once in a while. I say that as a person who is a little on the introvert side, and who usually doesn’t mind days on end of conversations with two kids under three.
