Recent news has yielded macabre thoughts stemming from a sense of just karma. Dark as these may be, October is the correct month for ghoulish considerations. It seems many on Kos myself included are gleeful at certain prospects yet reserved in showing them. These prospects include Trump suffering the worst of the disease he allowed to spread through the nation while hoping Pence, too, falls victim. Thoughts to an acting, or perhaps better, actual President Pelosi abound. That won’t help in the short hairs.
Were Pelosi to become President, acting or otherwise, Trump’s base would immediately elevate their activity. Fear that “... stand by” and its potential chaos.
Any remote chances of a relief bill negotiated between Mnunchin and the Democrat House will die. Such a bill would be seen as strictly “Democrat” in the Senate with prospects of a Pelosi signature. Short term tactics dictate the necessity of advertising the Mnuchin connection and securing a Trump or Pence signature for any hope of a relief package.
In the case specific to Pelosi becoming actual President, Republican support grows quickly. Much angst against Trump would die with Trump despite deserving to be across the Republican board. Democrat prospects in down ballot races benefit by Trump living till at least the fourth. Further, an actual President Pelosi would create an “anti-liberal” backlash swinging voters away from Democrats.
About the only thing that could be useful here would be some R senators succumbing. Such would swing the Senate balance thus enabling a Schumer push on that stack of bills being held in purgatory. Even were none to die, if a couple were sick enough, a confirmation vote could be stopped. Unfortunately disease infection and progression timelines aren’t adequate to realize the benefit from these.
Instead, we need to fear connections such as Mnuchin and staff between Trump and Pelosi as well as within all senators including Leahy, not just the Rs. As fortuitous as this may seem, the potential second order and further downstream effects are disastrous.

As some commenters have mentioned this seems both dark and sanctimonious, I have amended by adding two new opening lines to help lighten a touch and set the tone. I also modified the now third line to show clearly I am included in the group that upon first reflection celebrated at possible near futures. Added “myself included” and also corrected “everyone” to “many” and “is” to “are.” Please note, I am not trying to dissuade such thoughts from any sense of moral principle. Rather, I am noting on second reflection that a certain seemingly desired near future actually carries more cost. Hence my discouragement is strictly a practical view, not moral judgement. If anything, my feelings on the subject are still in line with my initial thoughts living in a cognitive dissonance with what I subsequently think better. While amending the opening, I also corrected a typo “... the a Republican board.” Deleted “a.”
