I’m sure you’ve seen countless posts, ads, and emails about the importance of getting out the vote for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democratic candidates who could flip the U.S. Senate. Those aren’t the only important races this year, though: we’re fighting to win crucial seats in state legislatures, too.
Our friends at Sister District are hosting phonebanks through November 3 to give you an opportunity to connect with swing state voters who can flip their legislatures blue or make significant Democratic inroads. State legislative races are often very tight, so a couple hours of phonebanking can make a big difference.

State legislative races don’t usually get the attention they deserve, but state legislatures are the battleground for issues like voting rights, abortion access, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare, the fight for racial justice, gun safety, and more. While those progressive values reach Congress and often the Supreme Court, too, we can do so much for human rights on a state level.
Just take Virginia as an example. In 2019, Democrats flipped the legislature, creating a blue trifecta in the Commonwealth for the first time in 25 years.
This allowed Democrats to implement much-needed legislation like the Reproductive Health Protection Act, which rolled back years of unnecessary and invasive abortion restrictions, an anti-discrimination bill that created historic protections for LGBTQ+ Virginians, and an entire host of gun safety measures.
