There is a saying (perhaps apocryphal) attributed to Wolfgang Pauli upon reviewing the work of another physicist: “This isn’t right. This isn’t even wrong.” I love this quote because it captures that some things can be so ridiculous that they should not even be admitted to evaluation.
I have long been searching for a way to communicate to others how utterly unfit trump is for the office he is currently holding. But just saying he is utterly unfit does not correctly convey the point. He is so unfit, so unqualified, so out of his depth, so uninterested, so not understanding of what his job even is that he isn’t even worthy of being evaluated for fitness for the job.
So when I see people say things — even as I just did above — like trump is utterly unqualified for the office of president — that gives him way too much credit. Saying he is unqualified carries with it the implication that he was evaluated for and found wanting. Again, he isn’t even worthy of being evaluated and judged as being qualified or unqualified. He is beneath evaluation — beneath contempt.
The same goes for anything he says or anything he does. Saying that those things are lies, or bad, or wrong again confers more on them than they deserve. The things he says or does aren’t right. They aren’t even wrong.
The problem with not being able to effectively communicate his unworthiness of even being discussed is that, again, it gives him much more credibility than he deserves — the credibility of even being at the table to be discussed (and he should not be). That in turn gives implicit permission for others (for instance his supporters) to think that somehow trump and Biden are comparable. They aren't. It’s like asking would you rather have cake or algebra for dessert? One of these things isn’t like the other (and isn’t even admissible to the question).
What do others think? Do you have a way of effectively describing how beneath description trump is?
Here’s to hoping the day will soon come when we don’t have to waste any more thought on that disgrace.
