In normal times, I understand George W Bush’s desire to “Retire” from politics, but this isn’t…
I understand his natural lean toward avoiding ruffling fellow GOP feathers, but it’s not that party any more…
I understand not wanting to tarnish his legacy in a typically red state, but it ain’t really red no more, and has it’s own great legacy of centrist and progressive leaders, including LBJ and Anne RIchards.
And given that Trump has dumped on all past presidents, including him personally and his family, it’s enough silence already.
And so, from my northerner’s point of view, a Bush endorsement for Biden:
— gives Trump the message that you don’t get to run down his family legacy, including brother Jeb and his father George HW.
--— adds good weight to fellow sane Republicans (Lincoln Project folks, Colin Powell, Michael Steels, John Kasich, others) calling for a “return” to a saner more professional Republican Party. It’s not like you’d be hanging out in the breeze alone.
And it seems to me: if Trump wins, he’s still gonna continue to run down and even criminalize all past legacies as he’s been doing. He crapped and shamed all over your brother, remember.
So what is there to lose, W ? Has someone in Trump land threatened you? Bribed you?
You know that the Trump legacy is about putting self-service over service to country. What about you?
Isn’t the welfare of the country you served a priority? Thought you had a backbone.
What if at this moment, you could be the one person to make the difference, alter history in the better direction? Why would you back off? Where is your better angel?
Will it be okay to lose Texas by an inch, when your word would have moved mountains?
What would your daddy want?
