A few nights ago I noticed a blast of stories posted to the top of the blog edition that had been posted earlier in the day. I only use the blog version — I truly and deeply hate the new Daily News-style all-pictures content-free clickbait home page. (It might as well all be “Guess who she’s marrying!”) But now the blog is being filled with reruns, stories from earlier.
I’m guessing that some bozo editor has decided to make the blog more like the clickbait front page, with selected headlines at the top, and on a blog they naturally go down the page, so they get reposted.
Seeing the same thing more than once is disconcerting. The whole point of reading a blog is to be able to read down to the point where you left off last time. It is a time sequence. If I read it at 10 AM and come back at 7 PM, I just read down to the 10 AM and earlier stories. That whole function seems broken. I have to read past old stories to see if any new ones are hidden among them.

But maybe it is a scheme to break the blog so that people move to the clickbait page. Or move to a new political blog, because this one, for all of its great content, is getting harder to read. And that’s tragic at a time like this, during a super-critical election season.
