When I first wrote that headline I intended it to be a question about what you’d like to see the Biden Administration accomplish over the next four years. Then I realized it applied to personal goals and wishes as well. What America do you want to be living in four years from now? And how do you want to be living it?
I had a list of goals for the Biden Administration but when I started listing my personal goals I realized there was actually a lot of conflict between the two lists. A simple example of this dilemma is that one of my Biden goals was to extend Broadband across the entire United States. But at a personal level I want America to be less divided, more tolerant, and far more communitarian. The Internet gives us a powerful tool for isolating ourselves from those not like us. Thus, should I really be advocating for Broadband?
This lead me to an intriguing question. How do you go about encouraging diversity in cyberspace? Clearly increasing access to Broadband might help facilitate that diversity and improve economic opportunities in currently unserviced areas. Equally clearly we need to do much more than that.
I am not sure what you might learn from the exercise but if you want to share your thoughts here please feel free. What do you want America to look like four years from now? What would you like the Biden Administration to have accomplished four years from now? How would you like your life or the lives of your loved ones to have changed?
