...there may be a precedent for that.
A 400,000 year old precedent, but these things may be cyclical?
And think of the advantages: for 3-4 months, no covid, no trump, no trumpettes, no maskless morons, no racist police, no news… No news! Where do you sign up?
Ok, just to be clear — I am kidding. Except for the 400,000 year precedent.
Anthropologists have discovered, upon examination of fossil evidence in Sima de los Huesos caves (near Burgos, Spain), that our Neanderthal (or earlier) ancestors may have had to cope with harsh winters the same way some bears do: by going into deep slumber or “torpor”, to save energy and remain alive.
There is, of course, some dispute about these conclusions. And that is the way it should be, given that it’s a quest for scientific knowledge. The Guardian article is interesting and worth your time if you lean towards that sort of thing.
May we soon awaken to find that all of this — 2020 — was a horrible dream.
