Don’t know how many of you have seen the new look from Land O’Lakes but it is causing a bit of a kerfuffle. The new CEO of Land O’Lakes has shifted to what they call a “farmer centered” brand — if you notice it even says “farmer-owned” right on top. What has changed? How about losing the whitest ever “Indian princess” from the label.
And that is causing the kerfuffle — a lot of comments about how Land o’Lakes is “abandoning an iconic image”? One comment stated:
The positive association of the strong Native woman on the front was powerful and made us proud. My friends who are tribal members often spoke of their support of her image. Are all Native women now going to be erased from all advertising?
If the image was actually of a Native American, I might feel for him.
Personally, I think removing one of the more egregious residual branding images is a very good thing.
BTW, the CEO Is the first Fortune 500 out lesbian CEO (and a great person).
