Many, including me, have assumed that this crisis and it's affects on the economy will doom Trump. Today, I'm not sure.
Biden's campaign is in limbo. He has basically won, but Bernie is not conceding, and his supporters, some of whom are surely rightwing trolls, continue to hurl vicious attacks on him. Biden will have no primaries to win for weeks, thus depriving him of media attention.
Meanwhile, Trump is holding daily press briefings keeping himself in public view and giving the impression that he is in control. His performance has improved slightly. He got high marks in one recent poll. This is maddening, but we need to deal with it.
There is a tendency to rally around the president in times of crisis. There is also reluctance to change horses in the middle of a stream. Presidents usually are reelected in wartime.
Biden will reportedly be holding daily press briefings starting Monday. This is encouraging depending on how they are handled. He has to walk a fine line. As much as I love him, he is not a particularly nimble politician.
One encouraging sign is that Trump's overall ratings have not improved. Rasmussen, his favorite pollster, has his approval rating at 46%. For that pollster that's very low. Other polls have shown little change. Of course, that could be bad for us too.
The best thing for Biden is for Bernie to exit the race. I don't see any signs of that happening soon.
