Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman is certainly champing at the bit to reopen Las Vegas. So much so that she’s willing to gamble your life on it. Appearing on MSNBC, her comments left home audiences wondering: is this for real? Even the Washington Post reporting side had to do a double-take in their article.
“Assume everybody is a carrier," the mayor said Tuesday on MSNBC. "And then you start from an even slate. And tell the people what to do. And let the businesses open and competition will destroy that business if, in fact, they become evident that they have disease, they’re closed down. It’s that simple.”
The mayor continues:
“We’ve survived the West Nile and SARS, bird flu, E. coli, swine flu, the Zika virus,” the mayor told MSNBC.
It seems like only yesterday when I was in Las Vegas last for a DNC meeting that was moved in 2017 from the Rio to another hotel, due to an outbreak of Legionnaires. Hey, everything is a gamble, right?
The response to MSNBC really shouldn’t surprise anyone, as six days ago, the Vegas mayor was busy encouraging people to start gambling immediately, as reported by KTNV news:
"Every day you get up it’s a gamble," Goodman said. "Are you going to make it back home? All our people in law enforcement, do they know if they’re coming home? All our people in fire and rescue, do they know if they’re coming home? Do you know you won’t be hit by a car? Do you know that your elevator in which you’re riding won’t crash to the ground? You don’t know. It’s part of life!"
