Last Sunday the President of the United States of America disclosed that “domestic terrorists” were operating within our borders.
Following, the President of the United States of America designated an American organization as a “Terrorist Organization”. The United States National Security Adviser stated that “radical militants” are “using military tactics to kill and hurt and maim our police officers.”
Later, the President of the United States of America said, “[I]fa city or state refuses to take the actions necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military...” Ina conference call with state’s governors the United States Attorney General said the process to use federal troops within state’s borders, "The structure we’re going to use is the Joint Terrorism Task Force.”
Two different actions have or are taking place. The United States declared an American organization as a terrorist operation and that the federal military will be used within state’s borders to fight this terrorist organization.
First, we must demand a full examination of all the evidence that led to the conclusion that an American organization are committing terrorist acts. Who are the leaders? How are they structured? What is the recruiting process? What are their goals? What is their ideology? Congress must immediately put forward to the executive branch these questions and demand answers.
The second action, the deployment of federal military within a state’s borders does reside within the executive branch’s purview. A proclamation to disperse by the President is required to trigger such an action. And the President, by his own admission, must disclose in writing what those “actions necessary” are before deploying federal troops.
Congress has an obligation to immediately seek answers from the executive branch as to the dramatic steps taken to reach the point of our federal military being used within our borders. These are not whimsical accusations and actions. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate must demand answers and a full examination of the evidence.
We all know and acknowledge the executive branch’s complete disregard for cooperating and partnering with the representatives of the people. We all know and acknowledge that the executive branch will ignore and order no compliance and cooperation with the legislative branch. But that does not excuse the legislative branch’s duty to conduct the oversight required by them in the Constitution.
As your congressman, I will demand that legislative leadership execute their duty to uphold the Constitution in conducting oversight of the executive branch, regardless of who belongs to what political party. We have reached a point in our politics where those acting in bad faith has become normalized and expected. This must not stand. The fight for doing what is right must come from every corner of our government. I will carry the legendary Kentucky fighting spirit to Washington and be that beacon of justice.
