Did Tucker Carlson have an unhappy childhood? Is that how we might explain him wanting to take it out on today’s kids? File them back into schools before it’s safe as a form of ‘tough love’ (more like, ‘tough luck’ as in, ‘you caught the virus from a classmate? Tough luck, sport’). And what’s with all his dubious scientific claims? On the one hand he says, “Distance Learning is not learning. This has been studied and we know it”, while on the other hand saying preventative measures such as masks and six-foot distancing have ‘no basis in science’. You would think, if you felt it necessary to send children (and the adults who teach ‘em, cook for ‘em and clean up after ‘em) into a potentially dangerous situation you would at the very least want them to be able to minimize risks, but I guess I just don’t get that whole ‘banality of evil’ thing.
Of course it’s concerning that American children are missing out on vital experiences as learners. Of course it’s with envy that we look at other countries who took the pandemic seriously getting kids back into schools and back to learning. But these are because of ADULT screw-ups, uniquely American mishandling of a dangerous and deadly serious issue. Kids being denied learning opportunities because of the stupid behavior of adults is bad enough. Kids, teachers, janitors etc. being buried due to the stupidity of the Tucker Carlsons of this world is far worse.
