The House passed the Great American Outdoors Act today which had passed the Senate in June by a 73-25 margin. the House vote was 310-107, a veto-proof margin ( Trump has said he will sign the bill into law). The bill permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund at the maximum amount of 900M, which is a huge increase in funding. in the previous 56 years the funds has only gotten the maximum allotment twice, most of the time the fund got half funding or less, Congress has diverted some 22B from the fund since its creation in 1964. In addition the bill creates a new fund that will provide 9.5B over the next 5 years to reduce backlogs in national parks, forests and waters, which will cut the existing backlog there ( estimated currently at 20B) in half. All in all this is a huge win for conservation, that has been nearly 6 decades in the making
